Aviation Cultures is a series of conferences where researchers and practitioners come together to share their knowledge and ideas about flight, and its place in history and society. To understand what kinds of things Aviation Cultures is about, read more about our history, and you can also look at what we discussed in past conferences!
What’s happening? Our 2025-26 program includes two Spotlights, along with our previously announced Aviation Cultures Mk.VIII Conference.
On 8 November 2025 we held ‘Logbooks & AvDocs’, in which field experts talked about finding and interpreting logbooks and other aviation docs. Then, on 27-28 February 2026, ‘Print the Legend‘ presented a look at the changes in aviation biography from the old ‘Boy’s Own’ to more detailed and tougher modern ‘warts and all’ biographies.
We are now building up to the Aviation Cultures Mk.VIII Conference in June 2026, our next major event. It’s international, in Canada, in partnership with two great organisations, and it will be streamed online as well. The Call for Papers has now closed, but registrations will be opening soon, so check back often or follow us on social media to keep updated.
